RCC Member Survey RCC Member Survey
The following goals were last udated July 24, 2007. They are the goals the club has sought to reach this year. Since we are nearing the completion of this Rotary year, I reviewed the club's success to date, May 5, 2008 -- Kenne Turner
Membership (Requirement)
Show a net membership growth of one member by 4/1/08. Early in the year we terminated some members either because poor attendance, or non-payment of fees. This practice continued to occur several other times throughout the year. We also had some members terminated by “mutual agreement” since their current work assignment didn’t allow regular attendance, but expressed a desire to return in the future. End result, a better club where quality has a higher priority than quantity. (Also see item 1 in Club Service.) Score: 3
Club Service
1) Membership Retention Plan – Continue orientation of new members regarding activities and projects. Continue Red Badge Program. Get immediate involvements of new members in club meeting (e.g. visiting Rotarian and guest introduction. “Who am I” within 45 days of being inducted, etc.) We have been able to do these things, however, on a scale of 1-10, we scored about 6. In all fairness, by the end of the Rotary year our score should be higher since much of our membership effort has been in the later half of the year. Score:6
2. Family of Rotary – As part of member retention plan involves new member family members at induction meeting. Designate Rotary functions as “Family of Rotary’ events. Invite family members at club cost to attend meetings where our club programs and projects are presented. Although not event was “labeled” as a Family of Rotary event, Club members regularly have been encouraged being their family to events i.e., 75th Anniversary Banquet, Pancake Supper, Paul Harris Fellow Recognitions and special luncheon programs. Additionally, family members are encouraged to participate partner events, i.e., CISD, YMCA and other Rotary Club’s events. Score: 7
3. Continue the new member challenge as was used in 2006-07 year. We have continued the challenge, but our timing and success rate has been poor today. We do have a drive to bring our membership back to that at the beginning of the year by June 30th. However, by any standard, we at best might be given a score of 4.
4. Promote member attendance at Club meetings and events. Expand non-meeting club functions that provide make-up credit- especially functions which provide community publicity. Several efforts have been put in place, i.e., signage reminder at luncheons and weekly “Monday Morning Updates. Score: 8
5. Implement a Club website. Use the website to keep members informed of Club, District and RI events. Promote attendance by current and new members. The web site has been updated and maintained to provide information not only to members, but all web site visitors. In addition to the weekly “Monday Morning Updates,” the web site directory was used regularly to send out communiqués to club members on specific topics and events. Score: 8
6. Have a “75 Year Anniversary” Banquet. We more than accomplished this goal by all measures. Score: 8
7. Plan a board retreat day to develop a long-range plan to implement the “Club Leadership Plan”. This has not taken place yet, but there is a committee in place and it may well yet take place. In the area of planning we have (1) conducted a membership survey and (2) accomplished membership input through having past-presidents take members to lunch for more one-on-one dialog on membership issues and needs. Score: 6 Vocational Service
1. Continue recognition of outstanding persons in our community. We have not been able to implement a plan to meet this goal, however, the Interact Club’s recognition of school administrators has been of help in this area. Without their efforts, the Club score would be 0. Score: 6
2. Hold one or more regular club meetings in club member’s workplace. One is schedule for May 13th, with possibly one more before the end of the year. Score 6
3. Continue Runyan Elementary School Mentor Program and expand member participation. Family members will be invited to participate. This program continues to be one of our most successful activities. However, as the need increases we have not been able to increase membership participation to the level we had hoped. Score: 7
4. Schedule Rotarians to make vocational presentations to CHS Interact Club meetings. We may not have met this specific goal, but club participation has increased and the Interact Club has the most members ever with several important projects – Women’s Center Christmas Party; Participation in the Annual Pancake Supper and Blood Drive; Shoes for The Needy Drive. Score: 8
5. Update classification survey. Inform Club of number of classifications for current members and the number of unfilled classifications. This has been done as part of our Membership Drive. Score: 5
Community Service
1. Continue the “I Like Me” books program. This annual project is taking place in early May. Score: 8
2. Continue the established programs such as Dental Program, Blood Drive, Shots Across Texas, and Scholarship Program. Other than Shots Across Texas, we have continued these successful programs. Score: 8
3. Continue financial and/or in-kind support for community agencies such as YMCA and RYLA/Camp Enterprise. RYLA participation was very successful, both in respect to student and membership participation, and by the end of May the YMCA TAKS partnership program will have been completed. Score: 8
4. Seek matching grants for any of the above. We were able to obtain a grant for the Dental program, thanks to one of our Roll of Fame members. Score: 7
International Service
1. Participate in an international project. We provided $1,000 to the Water project and the Club president went to Nicaragua with other District 5910 members. Score: 8
2. Continue 10 for 10 with participation of at least 50 members to achieve $5000 RI Foundation pledge. Award 5 to 6 Paul Harris Fellows. These activities continue, but not at the level anticipated. We have four new Paul Harris Fellows to date. Score: 6
3. Identify GSE team member candidate to go to France in 2008. We were not successful in identifying a team member, however, we did have a Club member apply for the GSE Team Leader. Although not selected, he was chosen to be the alternate. Score: 6
4. Sponsor Foreign Exchange Student during school term. Goal accomplished. Score: 10
5. Support the District 5910 Ambassadorial program. We have an applicant selected to be one of three Ambassadorial Scholars. Score: 8
Overall average score: 7
