Message from Ambassadorial Scholar, Page Foltermann, March 28, 2007
Ron and Conroe Rotary - just wanted to give you an update on all things Fiji .
Things here are good, school is starting to really pick up quite a bit. I am spending quite a bit of time typing, but I am enjoying what my classes have to offer.
I spend at least one afternoon a week at the Gospel Deaf School in town tutpring secondary students who are taking a high school exit level exam. I miss teaching so much, this gives me a chance to do it, even if its for a little while.
Since its cyclone season, the weather here is crazy. Howling wind and rain, and then heat and humidity.
Hope that all is well, and that the district conference coming up will be fun for all
Cheers,
Paige

A Message from our Ambassadorial Scholar
Ron and Werner - greetings from Fiji! I am doing well here, and am surviving nicely.
I am the only American in my entire program, and have beenembraced by the students and staff. I get asked odd questionsabout America and Texas, so it is a learning experience for everyone. The focus of my essays and papers are always a comparison of thePacific Island Nations versus the US, so they make good readsduring study sessions.
I am getting out and really exploring Suva. Soon I will be branchingout to other parts to Fiji. I have attended several Rotary meetings, and have given two speeches so far. There are always questions aboutthe Ambassadorial Scholar Program, so hopefully we can make thecommunity here more aware.
There are 4 clubs here and a Rotaract, and within the month I willhave visited them all. There are some great service opportunities, and I will be taking part. This month we will be putting on a healthfestival in some outer villages. I will be helping by verbally asking
questions and filling out forms for citizens of Fiji who cannot read.
Another focus is increasing Rotary's presence in the communityand letting people know what Rotary is about, and what they do. As I do more, I will let ya'll know. After three weeks, I think I havelearned a lot. Living without hot water and air conditioning is not badat all; I know I am lucky to even have electricity! I do miss Mexicanfood and Dr Pepper, but I do not miss having a car and buying gas.
They are working on my student visa right now, so hopefully thatwill be taken care of within the month.
Sincerely
Paige Foltermann
